Unveiled at WWDC 2024, Apple Intelligence is Apple’s generative AI platform built directly into its ecosystem. Branded “AI for the rest of us,” the service provides writing, image, and assistant enhancements across key applications.
Features include summarization and composition tools, Genmoji and Image Playground for visuals, and an updated Siri with improved contextual understanding. Apple has confirmed new capabilities—Visual Intelligence and Live Translation—for iOS 26.
Apple Intelligence was released in October 2024 with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, starting in U.S. English and expanding to more languages in 2025. Supported devices include iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, and Apple Silicon Macs and iPads from M1 onwards.
The system emphasizes security with on-device AI models, while demanding queries use Private Cloud Compute, keeping data private.
In partnership with OpenAI, Apple has integrated ChatGPT into Siri and Writing Tools, while hinting at future compatibility with Google Gemini. Developers gain access to Foundation Models for offline AI in their apps.
By 2026, Apple plans a major Siri overhaul, bringing deeper personalization and intelligence to users worldwide.
