Amazon has rejected a Wall Street Journal report suggesting that tariffs caused notable price increases on its platform. The Journal analyzed prices for 2,500 products, finding an average 5% rise between January 20 and July 1.

Amazon countered that some cited items were on sale when the first data point was taken, skewing the results. It named Dove deodorant and Yogi Tea as examples where increases stemmed from promotions ending.

The company’s blog post emphasized the volatility of online pricing and said the Journal’s method failed to account for normal fluctuations.

Inflation numbers from June reflect a modest rise in consumer costs nationwide, consistent with the small increases noted by the WSJ.
