Apple appeals EU’s €500M fine over App Store payment restraints

Apple has formally appealed a €500 million European Commission fine linked to its App Store payment rules. The penalty stems from alleged breaches of the Digital Markets Act, which obliges large tech platforms to permit alternative payment solutions.

EU regulators concluded in April that Apple’s system restricted developers from steering users toward external payment channels. The company’s updated EU policy, announced in June, includes a new suite of fees for developers using non-Apple payment methods.

Apple contends that the fine is disproportionate and that the Commission’s interpretation of the DMA is flawed. It claims the mandated terms will create confusion and harm user experience.
