Jack Dorsey has launched Bitchat, now available on iOS. He said the basic app was built over a weekend in July, reflecting a rapid creation timeline.
The app works through Bluetooth mesh networks, enabling offline communication with nearby users within about 100 meters. This technology can be especially helpful in environments where Wi-Fi and cellular service are spotty.
The interface is minimalistic, opening directly to a chat feed without any log-in process, and allows display names to be updated anytime. This encourages immediate interaction.
Fake Android versions have appeared on Google Play. Dorsey reshared a post on X advising users to avoid these, noting no Android release has been made.
