Microsoft AI chief says it’s ‘dangerous’ to study AI consciousness

Google announced Thursday a worldwide expansion of AI Mode, its Search feature for asking detailed questions and follow-ups. The update introduces new agentic and personalization features.

AI Mode is now available in English in 180 new countries, beyond the previous availability in the U.S., U.K., and India, with more languages and regions planned.

Agentic functions allow users to book restaurants and will later include local services and event tickets. Users can specify multiple preferences, including date, time, party size, location, and cuisine. AI Mode searches different platforms to provide curated, real-time options.

Initially, this rollout targets U.S. Google AI Ultra subscribers through Labs’ “Agentic capabilities in AI Mode” experiment. Ultra is Google’s premium plan at $249.99 per month.

Search results are now personalized for users, starting with dining topics, using prior search and Map activity to suggest restaurants matching preferences.

A “Share” button enables collaboration by sending AI Mode responses to others, helping with events, trips, or party planning.
